Each semester we invite pre-eminent guest speakers to our formal dinners. These compulsory evenings are a key element of our academic and collegiate program. Our catering team prepare a special three course meal served by waiters and our residents dress in their best.
In 2020 we look forward to hosting Professor Ian Jacobs and Supreme Court Justice Kelly Rees along with other inspiring guests.
Professor Ian Jacobs has been President and Vice-Chancellor of UNSW since 2015 and Chair of the Group of 8 universities since February 2018. Prior to this he was based in the UK as Dean of Medicine at University College London from 2009-11 and Vice President of the University of Manchester from 2011-15. He qualified in medicine at Cambridge University and the University of London before specialising in surgical treatment of women’s cancers. Jacobs is also Honorary Senior Principal Research Fellow of the Garvan Institute; Board member of Research Australia; Board member of the Business/Higher Education Round Table Board (BHERT); Board member of Ovarian Cancer Australia; Board member of The Conversation and Chair of the Sydney Partnership for Health Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE).
Justice Kelly Rees is a judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. She is also a proud alumnus of Shalom College where she was a tutor. Ms Rees graduated with a combined Bachelor of Commerce/ Bachelor of Laws degree at the UNSW, earning the Sir Kevin Ellis Prize. She also holds a Master of Laws (First Class) from the University of Cambridge. She served as Chair of the Education Committee of the New South Wales Bar Association. Rees was a barrister in many high-profile commissions including the Special Commission of Inquiry into Acute Care Services in New South Wales Public Hospitals, Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.
